Some Fresh Air in the Flat Plateaus

Updated: Sep 30

The iPhone 17 Air hints at promise, while the Pros remind us how comfortable repetition can be.

So, Apple finally pulled the curtains off the 2025 lineup—and honestly, it felt a bit like walking into a surprise party where someone had already texted me the guest list. The designs had leaked, the excitement of discovery was largely replaced by the quiet confirmation of what we already knew.

Now, the iPhone 17 Air—this one actually felt refreshing. Slim, lighter, and with a design that didn’t feel like déjà vu. For a moment, I thought, ah finally, Apple remembered how to breathe some fresh air (pun intended here) into its playbook. It stood out, not as a revolution maybe, but at least as a welcome detour from the usual rinse-repeat. I definitely carried novelty, and It was almost the best announcement of the evening for me - the airpods got me the most excited ofcourse, with improved ANC & a slightly better design. I think they are Apple's 3rd best innovation ever.

And then the Pros walked in. Apple’s words: “a new plateau.” My words: well, plateaus are flat stretches of land, aren’t they? Fitting description, really. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max do everything better—snappier chips, brighter screens, camera wizardry—but they somehow manage to look like that one friend who keeps upgrading their wardrobe but insists on buying the same shirt in slightly different shades. Reliable, polished, but not exactly jaw-dropping. I hope the battery life is significantly better to justify the "plateau".

Don’t get me wrong—I admire the finesse. No one polishes glass and aluminium(sigh, the titaniums are gone with a single season) the way Apple does. And maybe that’s the charm, the comfort of the familiar, knowing your phone won’t let you down.

But somewhere deep down, the kid in me still waits for that “wow” moment—the one that makes you sit up, grin, and think, “Okay, now that’s different.”

Hopefully, the iPhone 17 Air is Apple’s first quiet step toward something bolder—maybe even the foldable future we’ve all been waiting for. Let me hold this lingering curiosity (and my old iPhone) till another year to see if Apple chooses the mountain climb… or just another scenic flat plateau from where you can take even better pictures. with more zoom, and greater details.
